Perm is rightfully considered one of the largest educational centers in our country. There are a huge number of educational institutions of various fields located here. And, of course, technical sciences are especially highly valued in the Urals. For more than 50 years, Perm University, whose faculties will be described in our article, has been training students in the most current applied specialties.

History of University

This university dates back to 1953. It was then that the USSR Ministry of Culture decided to open a higher educational institution in the Kama region. In the early years, Perm was called the Mining Institute. He was supposed to provide the region with engineers who specialized in the coal industry. At first, the educational institution had neither its own building nor dormitories. Classes were held in a construction technical school, where a small area was rented. The construction of its own building began only in 1955 on Oktyabrskaya Square. The main specialization of the university was the mining industry.

In 1960, the institute was merged with several other educational institutions in the Kama region. Among them, for example, was the technical faculty of Perm State University. The Mechanical Engineering Institute was also attached to it. In the same decade, new faculties began to open that taught students construction, architecture, and chemistry. In the 70s, the institute grew actively. Beyond the Kama, construction began on a huge student complex, which, in fact, became a new urban microdistrict. Its construction was completed only in 1989. In 1992, the institution received the name Perm State Technical University. It was under this name that he became famous not only in Russia, but also abroad.

Elena Shiriy 11:32 07/09/2013

My friend graduated from Perm State Technical University a year ago. The university, he says, is wonderful. He entered there quite easily and immediately entered the third year - after technical school. It must be said that the competition for his specialty - “Automation of production processes and integration of computer technologies” - was quite large. This is understandable, because PSTU is very popular in our city and in the region as a whole, most of the Perm residents and many people from the region come here, so the number of students is high...

There is no more important and responsible moment in life than choosing a university and future profession, because opportunities for self-realization, career, and professional growth depend on education. In Perm, quality knowledge is provided in dozens of educational institutions. One of the most worthy educational organizations in the city is Perm National Research Polytechnic University. This is a university with a wide range of directions and specialties, good personnel potential and a modern material and technical base.

The first page in the history of the university

In Perm, the path of development of higher technical education was long, thorny and difficult. It was required to create a polytechnic institute in this city back in the 30s of the last century, but the Soviet government did not issue the corresponding order, since it did not see the need for it. The decision to organize engineer training in Molotov (the name of Perm in 1940-1957) was made only in 1953. In accordance with the issued order, the Molotov Mining Institute was opened in the city. It was from this educational institution that the history of the now existing Perm Polytechnic University began.

In the first year of work, it was planned to admit 200 people to the Molotov Mining Institute. Only 2 specialties were opened - “Development of mineral deposits” and “Mining electromechanics”. In 1954, a new specialty appeared at the university - “Construction of mining enterprises”. In 1956, the educational institution began to think that in the future the institute would not be able to satisfy the needs of industry in the Perm region. Employees expressed their opinion about the need to open a larger university.

The emergence of the Polytechnic Institute

The Molotov Mining Institute existed for about 7 years. In 1960 it was merged with the Evening Mechanical Engineering Institute. The new educational institution that emerged as a result of the merger was called the Perm Polytechnic Institute. This university was created to meet the growing needs of the Perm region for engineers. It was planned to provide full-time, evening and correspondence education in 22 specialties. In the first year of work at the polytechnic institute, 5,566 people began their studies. Most students chose full-time study. There were 2,537 people on it.

Each subsequent year in the history of the educational institution is a contribution to development. The Institute expanded its material and technical base, improved curricula, introduced new educational programs, and carried out educational work with students. In the 90s, the university’s achievements were already significant. This led to a change in status in 1992. The educational institution became a state technical university (PSTU).

After receiving the new status, the university continued its development and began to publish a periodic printed scientific peer-reviewed journal, which is currently called “Bulletin of PNIPU.” At first, publications devoted to mechanics were published. Now the university publishes several “Vestniks”. Each of them contains articles on a specific topic - “Socio-economic sciences”, “Aerospace engineering”, “Construction and architecture”, etc.

Further events in the history of the university

In the modern period of the existence of the educational institution, several of the most significant events are highlighted. They are listed in the table.

Events and achievements of PSTU
Year Event
2007 Perm State Technical University won the All-Russian competition of innovative educational programs of universities. As a result of this event, the state provided financial support for the development of modern teaching methods, the acquisition of equipment, and personnel training. Thanks to the victory, PSTU created 4 scientific and educational complexes (“Nanostructured products and materials”, “High-tech technologies for oil and gas processing”, “Integrated development of territorially combined oil and ore deposits”, “Gas turbine technologies”).
2009 The university received the status of a national research university. For further development, 4 priority areas were identified related to urbanism, nanoindustry, mining and processing of minerals, gas, oil, gas turbine technologies and aircraft engine building.
2011 and 2014In 2011, the higher education institution was renamed Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNIPU). In 2014, the educational organization was included in the list of the best universities in the CIS. It was compiled by the Expert Ra agency. In this list, PNRPU was assigned a rating class of D, which indicated an acceptable level of graduate training.
