  • Cellulitis;
  • Skin burns at various stages;
  • Conjunctivitis;
  • Furunculosis;
  • Carbuncles;
  • Purulent wounds of soft tissues;
  • Pyoderma;

  • Osteomyelitis;
  • Blepharitis;
  • Bedsores;
  • Inflammatory diseases of the vagina and cervix.

The drug is also used as a local contraceptive.

Instructions for use of Gramicidin

Gramicidin is used:

In paste form:

A sterile gauze pad with the drug applied is applied to the wound surface. Change every 2-4 days.

As a contraceptive, 5-6 g of the drug is injected into the vagina with a special syringe.

According to the instructions, Gramicidin is contraindicated for dermatoses. It causes slight pain when it comes into contact with a burn surface devoid of epithelium. In rare cases, various allergic reactions such as itching, swelling, hives and skin rashes occur.

In the form of a solution:

Previously, the solution of Gramicidin C is diluted in a ratio of 1: 100 with sterile distilled or ordinary boiled water. Used for purulent-ichorous metritis and vaginitis during douching, as well as for wetting tampons, rinsing, washing, and irrigating bandages. The aqueous solution is stored for 3 days after preparation.

If necessary, you can prepare an alcohol solution in a similar way using 70% alcohol.

By diluting the contents of one ampoule 25-30 times in any purified vegetable oil (or with fish oil or lanolin), you can prepare an oil solution.

In tablet form:

Gramicidin tablets are widely used for the treatment and prevention of throat diseases. To do this, 2 tablets (one after the other) are dissolved no more than 4 times a day. If improvement does not occur within 5 days, the drug should be discontinued.

Contraindications for the use of Gramicidin tablets include hypersensitivity to the drug and allergic reactions.

When complex treatment, it should be taken into account that Gramicidin enhances the effect of other bactericidal agents.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the drug is undesirable. There is no data on interaction with alcohol.

Sincerely,

One tablet contains 0.0015 g of gramicidin C. Additional components: food flavoring, lactose, sodium saccharinate, sucrose, calcium stearate.

1 ml of concentrate contains 20 mg of gramicidin C. 1 ml of 95% ethyl alcohol is added as an excipient.

Medicinal properties

The effect of the drug is to increase the permeability of the intercellular partition of the microbe, and its subsequent death. Thus, microbial activity decreases and inflammation processes slow down. Thanks to the anesthetic, pain in the throat decreases and it becomes easier to swallow. Prolonged melting of the tablet leads to the destruction of microbes in the mouth and on the mucous membrane of the throat. "Gramicidin" is not absorbed in the stomach and intestines, therefore there are very few negative effects.

Tablets “Gramicidin S”

Gramicidin is sold in 1.5 mg tablets, which is a single dose for children under six years of age and eliminates the need to split the adult tablet in half. Thus, children over six years of age and adults can take 2 of these tablets to achieve the prescribed dosage. They are round, flat, with a notch in the middle, white or slightly yellowish. They taste sweet, with a slight bitter aftertaste.

Packaged tablets:

  1. 10 pcs in contour blisters with or without cells
  2. 20 pieces in bottles made of plastic or dark glass.

Each bottle or 2 blisters of tablets are placed in a cardboard package along with instructions. This placement is justified by the number of tablets, of which the minimum treatment course consists of 20 pieces. Adults will only need to purchase 2–3 packages, depending on the purpose

Directions for use

Take after meals, place on the cheek and suck, but do not chew. If there are two tablets, they are taken alternately. It is advisable that the total appointment time should take no more than half an hour. When the tablets are completely dissolved, you should abstain from food and drink for about one to two hours.

Children 4–6 years old are prescribed one tablet at a time. At the age of 6 to 12 years – one or two tablets (but not more than 7 per day). Adults are prescribed two tablets. You need to take the medicine four times a day for five to six days. Gramicidin can be used for more than six days only as directed by a doctor.

The average price is from 160 to 200 rubles.

Solution “Gramicidin S”

It is also available in the form of a concentrate, from which you can subsequently obtain a solution as a semi-finished product or a ready-to-use solution. All three anesthetic options contain 2% alcohol. They have a yellow or light yellow tint.

The solution is poured into 5 or 2 ml jars. Jars with solution and concentrate are placed one in each package, with a semi-finished product - three.

Directions for use

The contents of the jar are diluted in water in a ratio of 1 to 150. If a solution is prepared using fat, take one part of the concentrate and 25 parts of fish oil, lanolin or castor oil. For dilution in alcohol, take one part of the concentrate and 100 parts of 70% ethanol.

The solution is used for washing, irrigating bandages and tampons (2 to 3 times a day).

Contraindications

Do not use:

  • Children under 4 years old
  • In the presence of individual intolerance to the components contained in the anesthetic
  • If there is dermatosis (applies to solutions for external use).

During pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, take only as directed by a specialist. If a woman is breastfeeding, the medicine should not be taken.

Precautions

For diabetes mellitus, the dosage should be carefully calculated, taking into account the presence of 0.05 XE in one tablet. "Gramicidin" dissolved in water is good for three days after preparation. Intravenous administration of the solution is prohibited - there is a risk of hemolysis and phlebitis.

Interaction with other drugs

When taken together with drugs that have an antibacterial effect, the effect of the latter is enhanced.

Side effects

The anesthetic property of the medicine may cause temporary numbness of the tongue. There is a possibility of allergies to the components of the anesthetic.

Overdose

If the specified dosage is exceeded, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting may occur. In such a situation, it is better to stop taking the medication and consult a specialist.

Conditions and shelf life

The main active ingredients of Grammidin are: gramicidin C dihydrochloride (0.003 g), anesthetic oxybuprocaine (0.002 g) and cetylpyridinium chloride monohydrate (0.001 g). Grammidin tablets look like round white discs, convex on both sides. They are sweet, with a pleasant, pronounced mint taste.

Pros

  • Among the components of Grammidin is an antiseptic that neutralizes bacteria that are not affected by Gramicidin, and an anesthetic that reduces pain in the throat
  • Grammidin tastes better

Cons

  • Do not take during pregnancy
  • The cost is higher than Gramicidin.

Many drugs used in modern medicine were discovered at the beginning of the last century. Gramicidin C, considered the first Soviet antibiotic, is no exception: the strain of the bacterium producing this medicine was isolated back in 1942.

The medicine confirmed its effectiveness in the second half of the Second World War: it was successfully used in the fight against wound infections. The next decade was marked by the triumph of scientists who synthesized the drug. Since then, Gramicidin C has been actively created in laboratories and widely used in therapy.

Features of the drug

Since 2004, the production and sale of the product has been carried out by the Valenta holding. The company sells the drug in Russia and abroad.

The high demand for Gramicidin C is associated with its unique properties:

  1. Being a polypeptide antibiotic (i.e., having in its structure molecules consisting of more than 10 amino acids), the drug differs from other drugs in the mechanism of action on microorganisms. By affecting cell membranes, the product disrupts their permeability. This leads to the death of pathogens.
  2. The chemical structure of the antibiotic minimizes the development of resistance to it in pathogens.
  3. The drug, intended only for local use, has no analogues intended for systemic use.

Sphere of influence

Gramicidin C in high concentrations destroys staphylococci, streptococci and pneumococci, in normal concentrations it suppresses the development and reproduction of gonococci, meningococci, as well as microorganisms that provoke anaerobic infections.

Prepared fat and aqueous solutions of the drug are used as a means for washing and irrigating dressings during therapy:

  • bedsores;
  • purulent wounds;
  • burns;
  • joint injuries;
  • osteomyelitis;
  • boils.

Also, aqueous solutions of the antibiotic are used to treat diseases of the oral cavity (tonsillitis, tonsillitis, periodontal disease, stomatitis, gingivitis, etc.), during tooth extraction.

An alcohol solution stops the manifestations of pyoderma.

In combination treatment, Gramicidin S is used after the patient has been diagnosed with blepharitis, barley, or infected eyelid eczema.

Special instructions

The instructions for the medication indicate the possibility of allergic reactions to the components of the drug. In case of overdose, disturbances in the activity of the gastrointestinal tract are observed.

The side effect of buccal tablets is expressed in the occurrence of a feeling of soreness, dry throat, and hyperemia of the mucous membranes.

Gramicidin C is not used for treatment during breastfeeding; if the patient is hypersensitive to the components of the medication or has dermatoses. Injecting any type of antibiotic solution into a vein is prohibited.

Gramicidin is not prescribed to the youngest patients. The drug is used with caution in the treatment of pregnant women and children over 4 years of age, if the patient has a history of lactose intolerance or diabetes mellitus.

Application and dosage

Methods of using the drug, as well as methods for preparing solutions are indicated in the table below.

Medication form Preparation scheme Method of application Frequency of treatments
Paste not required Apply liniment in a thin layer to the affected tissue. After treatment, the skin is bandaged. The dressings are changed once every 2–4 days.
Solutions
Water A 5 ml bottle of two percent concentrate is diluted with distilled or boiled (and cooled to room temperature) water in the amount of 500 (1000) milliliters. Rinsing, irrigating or applying generously moistened napkins with their subsequent fixation. From 2 to 3 r/day.
Fatty The contents of a 5 ml container are diluted with 125 or 150 ml of lanolin, fish oil or castor oil (2% antibiotic concentrate is used). The solution is applied to a sterile bandage, which is secured to the affected surface. Same
Alcoholic The concentrated drug (2%) is diluted 100 times with 70% methylcarbinol (for example, 500 ml of ethyl alcohol should be added to a five-milliliter bottle). Direct application to damaged areas. Lubricate the skin with pyoderma at least

To use the paste as a contraceptive, about 6 grams of the drug must be injected into the vagina using a special syringe.

The tablet form of Gramicidin C is used in therapy by placing the pill in the cheek and dissolving. Do not chew the medicine.

Dosage for adults - 2 tablets every 6 hours, for children from 4 to 6 years - one tablet at a time, with the above frequency. For small patients six years old, the recommended dose of the drug can be increased, but the total number of pills is no more than 7 pieces. 24 hours in advance (the principle continues until the age of 12). A single dose of 2 tablets should be separated by a 25-minute interval.

After the medication is absorbed, you should refrain from eating food and any liquids for about an hour. The course of therapy lasts 5-6 days.

Storage conditions

The aqueous solution of the medicine must be used within 3 days from the moment of preparation.

The optimal conditions for storing the medicine in the form of concentrate and pills are a dry, dark place, the average temperature in which should vary from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. Compliance with these standards helps preserve the therapeutic properties of the pills for 36 months, and the concentrated liquid for 5 years.
