How to play

Anyone who challenges them must not only resist the insidious spells, but also crush hordes of minions who are ready to do anything for their mistress. One of these witches, by the will of fate, was brought into the kingdom of ice and low temperatures, snow storms and arctic disasters... It is easy to guess that in the soul of the frozen recluse an irresistible desire arose to conquer a world full of sunshine and warmth. Without thinking twice, the warrior called no less chilled evil spirits under her banners and aimed the army against the human race. This undertaking would not have ended in anything good for people if a detachment of brave adventurers had not come forward to meet it.

Brave warriors and warriors organized a base camp inside a small box, where, among a scattering of cards and tokens, they sat down on cubes and decided to discuss upcoming events, consulting an ancient manuscript...

Six portraits of notable personalities, mounted on plastic stands, froze in anticipation of various events that will fall on their violent heads in the near future. Two blue hexagons are nothing more than a formidable weapon, indispensable during an attack.

Paired letter location markers will determine the shortest routes for adventurers to travel. Health is measured by blood symbols of varying value, risk and glory will be required when completing tasks. Rectangular level overlays will mark the preparation of the characters, and glaciation will complicate the already difficult task of saving the human race.

The squad will have to overcome 22 locations in which they will encounter 59 adventures. Of course, in addition to destroying the enemy, it is advisable to complete 14 tasks of varying difficulty levels. A memo with the characteristics of the hero will come to the rescue in a controversial situation.

Also, auxiliary cards with a brief summary of the rules of the game and decoding of special symbols will not be superfluous, and counters for fame and risk indicators will mark the available capabilities of the character.

At the crossroads of icy worlds

First of all, let's create an entrance to the magical world - find a location with a “tower” symbol and place it in the center of the table. Around it, lay out four random sections of terrain with a cross, observing the rules for the formation of uncharted lands: locations are located horizontally, there should be no closed areas (you cannot leave or enter them).

Each hero receives a card with the characteristics of the character and his portrait embodiment, which is placed at the starting location. The starting health reserve is marked by three single and one triple “drops”. Set the level pad aside; you will need it a little later. Place the glory and risk track, as well as two corresponding tokens, in front of the travel participant with a green stripe towards the player (receive 1 starting point of each indicator by marking them on the tracks).

Opponents receive 2 task cards - these are their personal goals. Next to the quest stack, place one card openly, which will serve as a common goal. Also distribute 5 adventures to each person, placing the remaining pile nearby. Reminders will help beginners navigate the intricacies of the rules. The most surprised player takes the first step towards adventure.

The adventurer's turn consists of five consecutive phases. First of all, the task becomes more complicated: traps are activated again, passages become inaccessible, temporary effects cease to influence the gameplay. In a word, almost all indicators return to their original state.

Next, it’s time to take on the responsibilities of a witch and cause trouble for your comrades in arms by playing risk cards marked with a red skull on them. This can be a curse (cross icon) or an attack (eye of rage). But not everything is so simple - the attacked person must have a similar (or higher) number of risk points on the track. In this case, the corresponding number of risk points is deducted from the opponent (pay attention to this nuance).

The effect of the curse occurs in accordance with the text on the card - there are no nuances. But the battle may seem complicated at first, but after two or three fights you will feel like an experienced warrior. By spending one action point, you can attack an enemy once per turn. In this case, the attack is carried out in accordance with the type of icon on the card used: magic, speed or melee.

After selecting the type of attack, the effects of the card used and the hero’s special skill are activated. As a defense, the attacker has the right to use cards marked “answer”. After this, the opposite sides roll the dice, add the rolled values ​​to the indicators of their fighters and compare the results. The loser loses one drop of life, and special properties can be applied to him that come into force after a successful attack.

Note: a separate section of the rules is devoted to battles, where dozens of nuances of the duel are outlined. I have only briefly covered the main points, read the rest in the manuscript over three cups of invigorating coffee.

Since we went on a trip, it’s time to explore the surrounding area - take one location card from the pile and expand the visible territory, observing the rules for the formation of unexplored lands. After this, the phase of exploits begins, during which you can try to complete a task, explore a new location, and play glory cards. Moving a hero to an adjacent area costs one action point; You can, of course, only go through open passages.

Having set foot on new land, the player immediately receives glory and risk points for this location - mark them on the tracks. If the hero is hungry for new discoveries, then one action point will allow him to remove another territory card from the pile and expand his horizons...

Between some locations there are secret passages marked with letters - they allow you to move from one place to another, covering significant distances in just one action. Additional letter tokens connect Tomb of the Dead Lord (the previous standalone game) to Realm of the Ice Witch.

There may be traps in locations, you will encounter various demons and other troubles - carefully read the text on the cards and do not forget to use special properties.

During the journey, the hero, by laying out cards from his hand, replenishes his inventory and receives additional opportunities in the fight against troubles. But keep in mind that you will have to pay for activation with fame points.

But the most important thing in our journey is completing tasks, both our own and common ones. To do this, the hero must be in a given location and perform certain actions. If successful, the task is placed horizontally in front of the player and brings him bonuses.

Three completed tasks - and victory is in your backpack! If you fail, don’t despair and try your luck again.

    • Game process

    All players take turns clockwise. Each turn consists of five phases:

    • Recovery phase. Everything that was in effect during your turn, effects, traps, etc., returns to its original state. All locations, except where your hero is currently located, become new for him again.
    • Atrocity Phase. You become the lord of the dungeon and have the chance to ruin the lives of your opponents. To do this, you will need your opponents' risk tokens. You must play a risk card and pay only players with tokens, not your own. However, you cannot use risk tokens from different players for one card.
    • Locations phase. Take the location map and place it on the table where possible. If there are no location cards, then you skip the turn.
    • Deeds phase. During this phase, you perform any of the following actions: exploration (you are allowed to take location cards and place them on the table, and at the same time you spend 1 point on each location card), movement (you spend one point to move the hero to another location), play glory cards (you can play from your hand into the glory card inventory and get benefits) or complete a task (the cards indicate all the conditions, restrictions and everything necessary to successfully complete the task). Any completed tasks are deleted.
    • Discard and draw phase. If you have cards in your hand, you must discard one card from your hand or one card from your inventory. If there are no cards in your hand, then you do not have to fold the cards. If you did not move or choose an action, you will receive one glory and one risk token each. Draw up to 5 adventure cards. The player's turn is over.

    The player performs five phrases at once on his turn and upon completion passes the turn to the next one.
